Mama’s Chex Mix Recipe

August 6, 2012 13 Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

We moms are always trying to find recipes for food that our toddlers will eat.  I can’t tell you how many times we’ve bought something just to find out he doesn’t like it.  Well I’ll tell you E eats this stuff like it’s going out of style.  I usually pair it with some grapes, a banana or raisins.

My mom started making this for us years ago when we would drive to Florida every Christmas.  It was great car food and we’ve been loving it ever since.  Last Christmas she made it and transported it for us and it was there that E’s love affair with it began.

You know it’s a good recipe when you get it looking like this:

This isn’t just any Chex Mix.  This is my momma’s recipe and she got it from a teacher friend (Hi Judy!) who got it from a friend and all along the way you can see what’s happened…modification after modification has led to this amazing mix of cereal, nuts and pretzels. The best part about this recipe is that I don’t feel guilty giving it to E.
Now I’ll warn you, the recipe makes a TON so I’d be prepared to split it unless you’re planning to feed a small army.  It does store well.  Enjoy!
Wait…what’s that?  You can’t read it?  Well I can.  🙂  Ok, fine, I’ll clean it up for you if you promise to pin it.  Deal?  How’s this?  Better?

I’m curious, what recipe do you have that is special to your family?  What does your mom make that you just can’t live without?  This is just one of many for me but I’m curious.
Happy Monday!

Wow! That’s got everything but the kitchen sink! Sounds delish!! I’ve never even thought of making chex mix before! I’ll have to try that! My mom always made a baked corn casserole growing up that i loved! The fam would request it for every holiday get together. Also growing up my gram made oatmeal peanut butter cookies that are to die for! Definitely brings back the memories! Thanks for sharing!! SPALove!

Love family recipes! They always turn out better than generic ones you find on the internet. We have a cake recipe that takes about 6-8 hrs to make; melt in your mouth goodness!
