Yup…that pretty much sums up my day. I had every intention of giving you a MAF update..it’s written but I just have to commiserate a little. Today was terrible. Yes, it could have been a lot worse but it was just one of those days.
It started with a nagging cough that E’s had for a couple of days. He woke up and after listening to him for 2 seconds I knew there was a bigger problem. So I made the decision to work from home. I took MiniE to the sitters and called the doctor.
Of course, given E’s history with RSV they wanted to see him. So I took two meetings and bundled up my toddler and headed to the doctor knowing I had to be back for another meeting an hour an a half later.
We got to the doctor and sure enough, E was having respiratory issues that required steroids and breathing treatments, oh and an antibiotic. This poor kid. You all know how crazy he is so when all he wanted to do was cuddle on the couch, you know there’s a problem.
So 45 minutes later we were out the door, E was exhausted and I was stressed that I wasn’t going to make my meeting. We pulled into the garage with 3 minutes to spare, just enough time to take my now sleeping toddler to bed and dial in.
Luckily, the meeting went off without a hitch and E was still asleep. I took this opportunity to take the edge off with a run. Have I ever told you how happy I am to have a treadmill. BEST INVESTMENT EVER.
E woke up 2 hours later and was ready for another breathing treatment. This one I could do for him. Then I had another meeting before having to pick up MiniE.
Picking up MiniE I learned that she had been straining all day and I could tell she was extremely uncomfortable. She hadn’t pooped in 2 days and it was all starting to have an effect. We all came home, she ate and had a bottle. I tried to put her down and she wanted no part of being out of my arms. I tried to comfort her and tried some of my natural remedies and nothing helped. I knew she wasn’t going to bed like this. So I headed back out to get the dreaded glycerin suppository. This is probably the most unpleasant thing I’ve had to do as a mom but it’s effective.
I came home, picked MiniE up to take care of the issue and she puked all over me. Not like spit up, like Flu type of puke. So half naked, I head upstairs with a crying baby and we took care of the problem. Just about as quickly as she was relieved, she gives me a small grin, as if to say “thanks mom” and pretty much falls asleep as I’m changing her diaper.
Meanwhile, E’s trying to sleep and coughing up a lung and screaming for mommy. Remember I’m still not fully clothed. I cradle MiniE for just another second, and head in to tend to E. He says..”Mommy, cuddle me”…
and just like that all the stress of the day melts away. I pull E as close as humanly possible, kiss his head and just sit there and thank my lucky stars.
Anyway, I know that was long and drawn out but it was a day of Motherhood that I don’t think I’ll forget.
How was your day?
