One of the things that I find so exciting as a parent is being able to experience your kids “firsts”. To see their eyes light up and realize that they are mentally recording the event in their little minds is beyond exciting. I have a terrible memory but I can recall SO many firsts and I’m excited to see my kids go through theirs as well.
But I realized/remembered, on our trip to NYC, how important it is for us as adults to continue to experience “firsts” as well. It’s not as easy because we’ve had a lot of firsts by this point in life but when the opportunity comes to experience a “first”, take it, no…seize it. No matter how big or small, there is a feeling, a twinge of nervousness that you’re stepping outside your comfort zone, a sprinkle of excitement at what’s to come and just an overall sense that you’re going to be changed in some way as a result of the experience. It’s what life is all about.
I still have a lot of firsts to experience, some I’m planning and some I don’t even know about yet and I’m sure you have some too. My challenge to you today is before the end of the year, experience a first of some kind.
What first are you looking forward to?
