I know…you’re as stunned as I am. It has been since July of last year since I’ve had one but I’ll keep this short because it wasn’t my best race.
February, strike that, all winter here in STL has been brutal. B..R..U..T..A..L but I optimistically signed up for this race because it was a chance to run over the new bridge that connects Missouri and Illinois. As the week went on, I noticed that weather just wasn’t going to be nice.
The night before was spent trying to talk myself out of running and preparing. I had to pull out all my cold weather gear because when the weather dropped below 32, I put it all away. Since it was going to be a HIGH of 19, I knew I was gonna need to layer up.
I laid it all out but I wasn’t convinced just yet that I was getting up. I’m such a wuss when it comes to cold and I was NOT looking forward to 19. When the alarm went off I decided to get up. The thought that if I didn’t I was going to have to face the treadmill got my butt up.
I got dressed and got out the door, coffee in hand. Found a spot downtown and got out of the car and noticed that the roads were still pretty messy. Lots of snow. But I was here so let’s see do this.
Why is it that the race announcers always want to talk and talk and talk before races like this. Just say GO already. I was toasty in my Oiselle and Team Chocolate Milk Gear but I did pull out my Turtle Fur to keep my neck warm and I’m glad I did.
This bridge is pretty cool, named after Stan Musial a baseball legend, it’s a suspension bridge that is visually appealing from every angle. It was definitely fun to run on it before it was open to cars tomorrow.
The route was slippery and congested so I was really just out for the run today which was fine. The distance was odd. Because the intent was to run the full length of the bridge and back it ended up being a 6K.
I ended the race and ran straight back to the car. Nothing like cooling off in 19 degrees. I knew I didn’t want to be outside when that happened. Overall, it was good. Glad I got out and did it, if for no other reason to break up the treadmill.
Now it’s off to bed, tomorrow I’m headed to the Rams training facility to workout with the Rams. I’m so excited. Should be a lot of fun. AND then Monday, you are gonna want to come back. I have a pretty yummy giveaway. (*HINT)
How was your Saturday?
Wow that bridge is awesome! So cool that you got to be one of the first to cross it!
How fun to workout with the Rams! Maybe it will be a little warmer. I can’t imagine running in 19 degrees. I’m actually worried that it will be too warm for my half marathon tomorrow, it’s supposed to be 81.
Burrr… 19 degrees sounds miserable. You are way braver than I am and I applaud you for getting out there and getting it done in very cold weather.
19 degrees?! You’re a machine! Nice job lady! Can’t wait to hear about your workout with the Lambs! 😉
Way to go!! It was 19 this morning and I opted to stay in bed… but I got out a few hours later and the extra 5-6 degrees (and sun) made a huge difference!
The bridge is stunning!! Way to tough it out! Cold weather and all!
I love the waving race pic even though your were probably freezing! Sounds like a great race idea but maybe better in warm temps! Great job!
I am definitely ready for warmer temps and no chances of a slippery run. Way to get out there and do it though!!
Congrats on getting the race in during craptastic weather. That bridge is so cool, I love bridges!
