Before we get into today’s post, I have a feeling some of you might be new to the blog. So let me say..Welcome! Browse around. Check out the top navigation for links to some of the topics that I love the most! And you can also follow me on Bloglovin. Ok, now let’s get on with the show!
I don’t know about you but half marathon training is in full swing right now and I’m loving it. Last week I logged over 20 miles for the first time in a long time. I have been using a new training plan this time around from Runner’s World and it has been so nice to shake things up a bit.
I have a recovery week this week and I kinda wish I was doing a few more miles but I’m not complaining. But I did want to tell you about two little things that are new to my training this time around. OH and an announcement that benefits you!
New Mantra…
The first is a new promise I made to myself.
Since last December when I went through all those heart tests only to learn that I have an elevated heart rate and always will, and by elevated I mean my avg HR during my 7 mile run this week was 162. I have had to come to terms with the fact that I just might not get much faster for long distances. Lately I’ve felt myself start to settle in to this new found knowledge and just accept it but there are times on a run where I wish I was running faster but I know that if I do, I’ll be walking before I know it. SO…I started chanting this new mantra to myself and it has REALLY helped me.

My New Mantra |
It really reminds me that, for me, it is about the journey, the experience no matter the pace, those will always be the reasons I run.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Partnership..
Last year I teamed up with Rock ‘n’ Roll Race series to bring you discounts on the St. Louis and Chicago Half Marathons. I have good news…I’m doing it again.
So if you are thinking of running the Chicago (July 20th) or St. Louis (October 19th), I’ve got a discount for you! Use codes:
Share the code with your friends. Then, be sure to follow me on Twitter, Instagram and FaceBook for other race day goodies and giveaways.
Money for miles…
I have always been one to reward myself when I hit a goal and usually that takes the form of new workout gear (because I’m slightly obsessed). So this time around, I decided to put away $1.00 for every mile I run…then use that money to pay for my reward. I literally go for a run, then come home, get 4, 5 or 6 dollars out of my wallet and put it in the drawer. It will add up and make buying that new tank, shoes, watch whatever…guilt free!!
How do you motivate yourself?
Make sure you come back tomorrow. I have a giveaway that will make you and someone else happy.
Love your money for miles idea! I might start that now and see what I come up with (hello new Athleta in town!)
That Athleta better stock up!
LOVE the money idea:) I really need some new tanks. Mine have developed that perma stink booo:(
I get that.
AWESOME! love the rock n roll race series!!
Me too!
Love the new mantra! Paying yourself for running treats is also awesome. I may have a tiered reward system for mileage myself. Haha!
Nice. Rewards are as important as goals.
I love the RnR series! I ran LA with Pavement Runner–it was one of the most well organized and fun races I ever run. So happy to hear you will represent for another year, they know a good thing when they’ve got it!
I’m so jealous that you got to run that race! Looked like so much fun!
I have yet to run and RnR race!
That is a fun idea for motivation! I think I do OK in rewarding myself with running gear deparment 🙂
I think I was most motivated when I was running for a charity! I also try to turn on the Charity Miles app when I have my phone on runs. It does add another level of motivation for me to go just a little bit further!
You really should try one. They are great! I love running for a cause too!
LOVE that mantra! Easy to remember and really motivating. 🙂
I’ve never run a Rock ‘n Roll race yet, hoping to run Savannah later this year. They sound like so much fun!
Thanks Shannon!
HUGE LOVE for the Money for Miles idea!! :]
I’m running my first RNR this April and I’m looking forward to it!
Thanks Cori! Which RnR are you doing?
I’ve done the money thing before too! I’ve done $1 per 1 hour workout which can add up over time but not take all your money! I even made a money jar … manage to buy some new runners!
oh wow!! I bet that added up quick
The mantra is great, i use to start out fast and after 3 miles i wld be tired. I hve to listen to my body and once i find a good pace i tell myself to keep the pace through out my run, if i dont, i increase my speed until i get tired they slow down or start walking. Great post!!!
Thanks!!
I love your new mantra. I too struggle with the slow process, and knowing that I am never gonna be a speed demon, but I have been seeing improvements. It has just taken a LONG time haha
