Can we talk about all things running for a bit? This week started off so exciting with the Boston Marathon. I wanted so badly for it to go well not only for the runners but for the city as well and I’m so glad that it did. Boston is a world class running town and it shows.
I think I finally get what guys must feel like the first week of college basketball tourney when they have to work. I wanted so badly to sit at home and just watch as runner after runner flew by but I was at work. So I managed to get snippets. I rooted so hard for Shalane, I was sure she could hear me. If it weren’t for her strong start, I’m pretty sure there would’ve been no new record set. Meb was fantastic! I’m sure it’s hard for non runners to understand the gravity of what he did, the pace he kept and the finish he pulled out of his sheer will to win. I could watch that last mile again and again. It never gets old.
Amazing race..Congrats to some of the ladies I knew running it: StuftMama, Amanda Bowers, Dani Holmes-Kirk, Corey Parker, Jess (Pace of Me) and I’m sure there are so many more that I’m forgetting. While running Boston might not be in my future, I would love to go and cheer from the sidelines at some point.
Ok, next, one of my 2014 goals was to set a new 5K PR. I’ve been so focused on training for the half that I hadn’t had a chance to think about it till now. My next half isn’t till July so it’s time! Big River Running here in STL is hosting speed workouts in May for free and I’m penciling them in. I went a long time ago before E was born and I really did feel running in a group like that with a like goal helped me push myself. I haven’t found a running buddy yet but I hope to find one here. I registered for a 5K on Saturday and I’ll use that as a baseline to see where I’m at and how far I have to go.http://stuftmama.com/
I did my first speed workout in a long time on the treadmill yesterday. It felt good to pick up the pace a little bit. Now to see if I can do it for prolonged periods of time.
I’m looking forward to running the Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll in July and St. Louis Rock ‘n’ Roll in October.
If you want to run either of these be sure to use my discount codes to get $10 off – MOMSLRBCHI or MOMSLRBSTL. If you use the code let me know, I have some pretty sweet swag to give away on a first come first serve basis! You can see more details here!

Ok the last running related topic is Oiselle Team Camp. Being part of Team Oiselle comes with many benefits, among them are an invitation to head to Oregon for a Runcation in August. I haven’t done anything like that since 2012 Hood to Coast so when this was announced, I knew I really wanted to try to make it out there.
I’m so grateful to my husband who has agreed to hold down the fort for 4 days while I get away for a little me time, flying with the flock and getting to know some amazing runners. I’m so fortunate to be part of the Oiselle family. I don’t know if I say it enough but Oiselle is an amazing company that really loves the sport and the girls that do it!
What did you think of the running of the Boston Marathon? What deep running thoughts do you have? Have you ever run a Rock’n’Roll run before?
