CamelBak Review and Giveaway

September 3, 2014 24 Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Labor Day might be come and gone but that doesn’t mean the heat is gone and that definitely doesn’t mean that you’ve hung up your running shoes.  In fact, you’ve probably ramped it up a notch to get ready for fall racing.

Problem is, if your weather is anything like ours here in St. Louis, the summer that we’ve been missing finally showed up and has brought the head and humidity with it.  Up to this point it’s been warm but definitely manageable.

Running in this heat also means being safe and staying hydrated.  It’s really easy to get dehydrated and before you know it, it’s too late.  Read my scary story here.  For most of my runs, I would take the the CamelBak Arc Grip 10 oz and it works well for my mid distance runs.  The thing I really like about this bottle, as crazy as it sounds is that they have padded the area where the bottle rests in your palm so it doesn’t get too cold.  I like to fill mine and get it almost frozen before I head out.

Lately as I’ve been trying to get more longer runs in, I need more water.  I was so excited when CamelBak sent me the Marathoner Vest and it has saved me!  It can carry up to 2L, I don’t drink that much on my runs but I drink enough these days to love the extra water I get to carry.  Some of the other great things about the Marathoner is you don’t feel the water sloshing around which I can’t stand.  I’ve actually tossed a couple bottles that drove me nuts.  The vest fastens snugly around you as if it were just another shirt and it has so many extra pockets.  It holds my phone, some beans and just about anything else I want to take.  It’s FABULOUS!  Is it worth $100?  HANDS DOWN…YES!  It’s worth more.  If you plan on running distances over 7-8 miles, I highly recommend this.

So to help you stay hydrated, CamelBak has sent me a second Arc Grip just for one lucky winner.  All you have to do is use the RaffleCopter below to register. Contest ends September 7th.

I have both options. I love the hand-held for shorter runs. But the backpack is a staple on my long runs!

I need the marathon pack! I have a couple of their water bottles that I use for my bike, but I like the size of that handheld. I’ve not tried a pack yet, but must figure out something for my long runs soon. Lugging around the handheld is annoying 😉

The vest you’ve shown looks great. I think the grip could be good for shorter to mid runs, but I know I’d get annoyed holding it for too long. I have a belt but I’m not crazy about it because it doesn’t stay perfect. A vest I think would be better for me, provided it doesn’t add too much heat wearing it.

I love the little handhelds, they are great since they aren’t so bulky. I would love to try the Marathoner one day. Does it get too hot on your back?

I want to try the grip arc because my current handheld (NOT camelback) stinks!!! As far as I know New York road runners races banned hydration packs post Boston hopefully they change that!

The Marathoner best or the Dart would be great for my super long (15+ mile) runs.

The Delaney belt-based pack looks nifty for running. I’m curious about the vests too.
