I really wanted to give yesterday’s post one more day at the top but I have to put down on proverbial paper the feelings I’m feeling after something I did last night but before I get there, I have to tell you the back story.
If there’s one thing that my parents have instilled in me is that we are put on this earth to help others, whether that’s through raising children, teaching, or just helping others in need, it’s part of who we are. My parents led by example and I took that to heart.
There is a high that comes with donating your time, it’s different from crossing a finish line but it’s more rewarding. One of the things I did when I moved to St. Louis over 10 years go was attend an event called Celebrate Fitness (read about it here) and I loved the event and what it supported so much that I volunteered to help the following year. I filled out a little survey and my life will forever be changed.
Since 2004, I have helped with various aspects of Celebrate Fitness, and last year, we made the very difficult decision that it was time for Celebrate Fitness to come to an end.
What I didn’t realize till last night was how much Celebrate Fitness had helped me and had given me. Last night I went to a little dinner with some of my closest Celebrate Fitness committee members..women of all ages, all with very different lives who would come together to put together the amazing event.
Last night we got together and got caught up on each others lives. We laughed together, cried together and the feeling of love in that house was undeniable. I was moved, inspired and just grateful to be there. For a short time, we put our crazy lives and challenges aside and just enjoyed each others company and it was amazing.
So for the beautiful people who Celebrate Fitness brought into my life, I’ll be forever in debt.
To all the women in that room last night and the women that couldn’t be there…I love you all very much and hope that we stay connected.
To everyone else, find sometime to help someone this year. You won’t regret it.
