What a fantastic weekend all around! Racecations are the best, even if they are just a couple of days. So it’s time for a little race recap.
This weekend was no different. The weekend started Friday night when we flew in. We headed to the expo to pick up my race packet and peruse the booths. I was so excited to see some of my favorite brands represented:
Arizona is such a great place to visit because we have so many friends there that I was just dying to see, Friday night’s dinner allowed us to catch up with one of them. There is nothing more comforting than spending a few hours with close friends. Am I right?!
Saturday was the 5K and FINALLY after 10+ years of begging, my husband ran his first 5K…he didn’t just run it, he KILLED it, placing 12th in his age group! Seriously. Another one of those moments that filled me with pride. I think he even liked it. 🙂 I spent my 5K time catching up with the two other Arizona Rock ‘n’ Bloggers, Dre (ReNewedMe) and Tina. This wasn’t about time, this about fun. The course was great, starting and ending in downtown Tempe and running along the lake. The course was predominately flat but I did find that the difference in elevation took some adjusting, more because my lips were constantly dry. You wouldn’t think that would be a big thing but it messed with me.
NOTE: Take chapstick when you run in Arizona!! You’ll thank me later.
After the 5K, I changed and headed back downtown Phoenix to meet up with the RunWestin group and Emily (Run EMZ). I was so excited to meet her and get to hold Bo, who is just as adorable as he looks in the pictures. He even let me cuddle him a little. I can’t say enough good things about EMZ. She’s as genuine as she could be and just an amazing spirit and inspiration. Again, the heart warming moments continue!
After meeting up with them, it was off to the Expo for the Rock ‘n’ Blog Tweet Up. Another freaking awesome experience that had me more nervous than running. I was worried people wouldn’t show up (they did), I was worried they wouldn’t care (they did). I was so nervous I didn’t even take any pictures, thankfully RunEatTweetAZ did. THANK YOU! We answered some questions, gave out tons of great prizes and got to meet tons of runners! THANK YOU to everyone that came out!
Check out Tina and Dre. We jumped from the expo over to CityScape where we met up with the RunEatTweetAZ group. Talk about fun!! They are a great (and big) group that really enjoyed each other’s company. Seriously, could this day get any better?
The answer is yes. After ALL that, we actually had a little time to soak up some Vitamin D at the rooftop pool, the Residence Inn Downtown Tempe. I can’t speak for everyone, but as a mom, I find even an hour to just be silent, breathe and enjoy a nice view and a nice hot tub is about as therapeutic as you get. I really needed the time to unwind and slow down a little.
That night we met up with some local friends who had flown out to run with us. We also met up with a family friend, actually one of my dad’s childhood friends. This was another night filled with heart warming conversation, funny stories about my dad and just an all around amazing time. Troy is a local jeweler that does amazing work if you need anything custom but he was also my dad’s oldest friends. He shared a couple of stories about my dad that I didn’t even know. We laughed a lot and I knew that my dad was there with us.
So that’s it…Day 1. Just a little bit going on. Recap #2 will be the Rock n Roll Arizona Half marathon itself.
Are you racing this weekend? What did you do?
