I’ve been trying to get the second part of my recap up for over two weeks. I recapped the 5K, expo and some meetups in the first recap. So I finally get to tell you about the half. Read the first recap here.
First off let me say, as a strong middle-of-the-pack runner, Arizona in January is a PERFECT place to run. The weather started at about 45 in the morning and didn’t get above 65 till later in the day. The location is great. Starting and ending in downtown Tempe is the perfect setup for the race. We stayed so close to the start and finish that I could just walk. It was fabulous.
I met up with my blogger friends (Dre and Tina) and we made our way to the corral.
We all started off together at a very comfortable pace which was great because we ended up talking most of the way. Dre and I ran Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles together so it was fun to catch up with her.
The course was fun and flat with the exception of this one little hill around mile 9. They even had a drum group that kept you moving all the way up and then all the way back down.
The race ended before I knew it. I felt great and really like I could’ve gone another 13 miles which is weird for me because I’m almost never feeling good at the end of a race. The race bling, as always was fabulous and I would REALLY love to come back next year to get medals that connect to each other. I’m still looking for the picture.
Mile by mile, I think we averaged about 10:45. It was a nice pace that allowed us to talk and have a great time. I left the race and the weekend with a renewed love of running and of the community that surrounds racing. I’m even starting to think about what I would need to do to get more competitive at the half marathon distance.
Have you raced this year?
Gosh, it’s always nice to finish a race with gas left in the tank! Great job!
love all the RnR medals! It’s so much fun to meet up with blogger friends at races isn’t it?!
Awesome recap, I hope to run this one sometime!
Thanks Sue!
