I had a lot of fun at BlogFest a couple weeks ago. I loved the sense of community that existed all because people were passionate about something and wanted to learn more. I talked about brand relationships but I thought it would be fun to share some of my other random tips about social media. Let’s start with Instagram.
I’m no “expert” but I do love it and have some techniques that I use to increase Instagram engagement. Rather than keep it all to myself, I thought I would share in the hopes of starting a dialogue because when we talk, we all learn.
It’s not enough to just push…push…push…Instagram is a two way communication vehicle. So once you realize that you will see better engagement.
Find Like IGers
Unless you have a brand, publication or some other mass media type group promoting you, the best way to be seen is to see for yourself. Think grassroots.
I like to find others that like the things I do by searching hashtags that I use like #FitFluential, #MotherRunner #StrollerRun15, #TravelingRunner etc. These are my people and I’m definitely interested in what they have to say and hope the same is true for them. I like their pictures, I comment, I engage. Plain and simple.
Friend of a Friend
Your friends with tens, hundreds, thousands of friends for a reason (think about the brands you love too). Just think about it. I love Mizuno…chances are their followers like Mizuno too. Chances are we would like each other. Each of those people are also friends with tens, hundreds, thousands. Yes, there will be some overlap but there are also many that you aren’t connected to. Look through your friends friends to see if you have any similarities then do the above (like, comment, engage).
Everyone loves free stuff. Host a IG only giveaway. You can also work with other bloggers/social media influencers and host a loop.
What’s a loop? A loop is a coordinated giveaway among a few influencers. One image is created that is then posted by each influencer at the exact same time and tags the influencer next in the loop. An order is established so regardless of where an IGer starts, they know where they go. The IGer clicks on the tag of each picture and follows each of the influencers. Once the IGer has made it all the way back around to you, the loop is complete and they are entered. (see example)
Switch It Up
I get it you like to run. You like to post sweaty selfies. Don’t we all? Just like your blog, IGers want to get to know YOU, not just your running routine. Change it up a little. Let them into your life a little bit.
Clean Up Photos
When possible, use professional photos like this one (link). iPhones are good but there is a distinct difference between the quality of the two and even if you do it just a few times every now and then, the change in quality will be appealing and look really good in your IG feed.
Ok, there you are. Those are some the tips that are top of mind. Let’s talk. Stay tuned..I think next we’ll talk about Periscope. Follow me by searching for MomsLRB, I’m always posting tips, workouts, and more!!
