Oh man! So if you’ve been around here for any amount of time, you know I LOVE firsts. I feel like as adults that’s one thing we don’t get enough of anymore. It’s that feeling that keeps me going. This blog, the one that started out as an “online letter” to my grandmother (we call her nana and you can too) was one of those adult firsts (read my first ever post here). If you don’t know, this whole thing was her idea. When I got pregnant with my first child, it was her idea to blog it so she could see pictures of my ever growing belly.
Somewhere between then and now, I tapped into this incredible world of runners, moms, dads, and supporters. You’ve helped me through so much: the birth of two kids, my dad’s unexpected passing a couple years ago and a scary career change that has landed me back on the road far too much.
It’s this blog and this community that has continued to humble me with a series of firsts I never thought I would have. Starting WAY back in 2012 with Hood to Coast, to a series of Rock ‘n’ Roll Races, to the largest 10K in the world, speaking at conferences and now the next first…
It came up suddenly (like Thursday night) and with just a little time to think it through, I decided it was an experience I couldn’t miss. It won’t be my first but it might as well be; you see, I will be running the NEW YORK MARATHON as part of Team Asics!!!! It’s been almost 10 years, WAY before this blog that I ran my first and only marathon. It wasn’t a pleasant experience but I was a much less experienced runner then and feel much better equipped to tackle this bucket list race.
Asics invited me to be part of the team with these other amazing bloggers:
- GingerRunner
- Sharp Endurance
- Running, Loving, Living
- Runner Unleashed
- Me (Make sure to subscribe to the blog to get the latest and greatest training updates)
Over the course of the next 8 weeks (yes, you read that right. I only have 8 weeks to prepare) I’ll be taking the guidance of Asic’s team Coach Kastor and sharing all the experiences with you through Asics’ web series. You’ll get the inside view of my training, my challenges, my little victories and hopefully, the ultimate victory…crossing the finish line in New York just six days before my 36th birthday.
To say I’m scared is an understatement. September is full of travel (3 weeks in a row) so I’ll be doing a lot of this training on the road (oh joy). You know I’ll be honest, I’m not going to sugar coat it and I’m going to need you guys to help keep me on the right path.
You can follow along on all the training fun of the entire team by following us. We will be using the hashtag #AsicsNYCM. Anytime you see that hashtag, please send words of encouragement and if you want to come to STL to run with me, PLEASE!!!
So let’s get this abbreviated training schedule off on a good foot but before we do, I want to thank Asics for believing in me. I most DEFINITELY do NOT want to let them (or me or you) down.
Let me have them…what are your best marathon tips, tricks, or memories. Send me your happy marathon vibes!!!!
Congrats! That will be very exciting for you. My only advice would be to be careful about trying to jump up the mileage too quickly because of the short training period. Just do what you can, have fun, and enjoy the experience.
Congrats! I am training for the Chicago Marathon in October but New York is definitely on my bucket list! You will do great! I am coming off of a week of shortened/missed runs due to life (work, kids, everything) and was feeling completely burnt out on running. After reading this, I can’t wait to run tomorrow morning, you are definitely an inspiration!
That is so exciting congrats! Can’t wait to follow along and read about it
