Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about you two and the people you’ll be and the people I want you to become. Every day we get to see a little more of your personalities develop and get more and more excited about the people you are and are likely to be.
I try to write down different memories (in the books on my nightstand) that will help you understand someday why we chose to raise you the way we did. We love you so much and want so much
for you. SO I thought I would jot down just a few of the BIG things…
As parents, our goal is to give you experiences not things. Yes, we have toys but we don’t want you to see those as a sign of love. More importantly, to use, we want you to collect memories. We want you to recount them and smile every time you think about them. Like the time you went to the snow mountain…or the time we went to Chicago OR that day we just stayed home, in our pj’s and watched movies and ate popcorn.
We want you to be better people than we are. We want so bad for you to be considerate and loving and to remember that helping others will bring you more joy than just about anything else.
Education is a MUST, no matter what happens in life. It’s one of the few things that can’t be taken away from you. Learn EVERYTHING YOU CAN. Hard work pays off.
Regardless of what anyone says, we want you to learn to love who you are and appreciate what you can do. We are trying to raise you in such a way that allows you to develop a good self-image early. One that you can feel confident in that long into your adult years. Never underestimate yourself.
Finally, family should always be there for each other. Chances are, you are going to grow up to have different opinions and that’s great but NEVER LET those get in the way of being there for each other. We want you to realize and appreciate the blessing that siblings are. Embrace it and love it.
I think that’s about it. Every time we play, every time we hug, every time we say “I love you”, we’re saying more than just that. We’re saying all these things and more. So grab let’s head outside, it’s time to make memories.
