Oh man guys… last week was CRAZY. I spent four days in the East (New Jersey and Pennsylvania) on the first of three weeks of business trips. Traveling isn’t fun and it becomes a little less fun when you know you have marathon training hanging over your head. So let’s recap the week..
Last Monday I got in a three mile run after Sunday’s 10 miler. Tuesday I got in a four miler before jumping on the plane. Wednesday, I actually got up before my work day started, found a local gym, got my run in and a little bit of strength.
That would conclude my workouts for the week. We started our work days early and ended late so logistically I couldn’t make training happen. I chose not to let it weigh on me. I knew these trips were coming and knew that it was going to be EXTREMELY tough which is why I made my goals modest.
I finished or started depending on how you look at it with a 13 miler with the training group at Big River. I needed to do 14 or more but my hips started bothering me and the top of my right foot. I chose to listen to my body and cut it a little short. The weather is cooling down here so it was PERFECT weather and PERFECT company…I just wish the run itself had gone better. I guess after the week, I should be happy with the results.
Next week presents more challenges…I’ll be headed west to Phoenix for three quick days. My goal is to get my run in tomorrow before I head out, Tuesday morning and Wednesday when I get home. The rest of the week should be “normal” before heading out next week for yet anther East Coast trip.
If there’s one thing you (and I) can take away from this whole experience is that IF I do, in fact, cross that finish line, anything is POSSIBLE! I’m optimistic and you should be too.
We’ll get there together!!
you and your musings are such a great reminder to me on this Monday that we are all busy and, in a way, none of us are busy. just all need to focus on choosing to live our priorities.

Yes…yes!!
It’s soooooo not easy to train when traveling for work. I don’t do it much anymore but was reminded of this over the weekend. I was supposed to be getting in a 13km long run on Saturday but I also had a 12 hour work day. So I went out for about 40 mins, ran along the Rideau Canal and it was beautiful. Instead of beating myself up for not getting in the full distance, I did what I could and said a prayer of gratitude that I got to experience a new and beautiful route.

I love your outlook on things!
It is hard to get workouts in while traveling and marathon training is even tough. You got this girl!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Deborah! I’m gonna need it
I like the whole “Life Got in the Way” title. I missed/cut short about 6 runs including 2 long runs training for Chicago in 3 weeks mainly due to a combination of kids, long work days, etc. I basically told myself that life will get in the way but to keep on going. I also googled “missing runs during marathon training” to make myself feel better because it appears that every runner goes through it one way or another. I will be cheering for you!
Wow, I am in awe of you and how you get this all done and travel as much as you do!! You are seriously a BAMR!
