Happy Friday! Oh wait, it’s not Friday is it?! It’s been a weird week already. After Sunday’s 20 miler, I felt drained all day Monday and yesterday. I tried running, I really did but I didn’t have enough will power or discipline.
Last night after work, I came home, immediately got dressed and headed to the basement to jump on the treadmill. I looked at it and the thought of 4 miles seemed impossible. I jumped on anyway only to have my internal voice talk me right out of running.
I was frustrated and disappointed with myself. I spent the rest of the evening tending to the kids and trying to forget the craptastic run attempt. Once the kids went to bed I was still feeling unsettled. So I channeled my energy into a craft project that I’ve been putting off. I started it a few weeks back and it was taking longer than expected. I was using ModPodge and it just wasn’t going the way I thought it should so I just shut it down. It’s been sitting on my desk collecting dust and I figured if I wasn’t going to run, I should at least finish a project that might actually provide the much needed inspiration I needed.
After an hour and a half, a glass of Pinot and a hot glue gun (TIP, don’t use Modge Podge, go right to the Hot Glue Gun), I was happy with the way it turned out. If you want to do it, this is the best place to find the letters. Buy here. The project was a great way to remember some races that I had forgotten about. It did just what I hoped it would do. I was excited at the thought of adding more bibs and possible adding to my wall. I was motivated enough to pack my running gear and try to get a runch in.
Again I was faced with a treadmill in the closet we call a fitness center or going outside. The weather was gorgeous but my office isn’t in the best area so finding a route outside can be tough but it was worth a shot. Turns out, we have a trail that runs right through a local college and it’s perfect. 4 miles…at lunch..done! BOOM! Just like that, I’m feeling it again! It’s amazing what a new route can do for you!
So this weekend is Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Louis and I’m excited. Funny how just 6 weeks ago this was my fall race. We are getting so close. Crazy to think two weeks from tomorrow, I’ll be heading to NYC!! It’s getting close!

How is your fall racing going? Are you done? Did you race Chicago? What’s left on your race calendar?
OOOH I spied that DIY on I think it was Facebook yesterday. I really need to do that for a dear sweet racing friend of mine.

I don’t have any races left this fall but I really discovered this summer how much the treadmill took away from how much I love to run. It’s convenient but I need at least one outside run a week! Good for you picking back up and going even when you weren’t feeling it!

I love that crafty fun art project. I’ll have to do something like that, what a great way to keep memorable races close at hand in a creative way.
Good luck at Rock N Roll St. Louis! NYC is sooo close! I know I’m excited about it, it’s my first New York race. 🙂

LOVE the RUN craft project you did using your bibs for decoration and color! I don’t really have a set place to call my own just yet but I can’t wait for the day I do and get to make all sorts of fun DIY projects and motivational projects such as this one! It’s always great to create something with your own hands to keep yourself motivated for areas of your life like fitness! I’m a newbie runner still, currently doing the C25K app. I have a 5K next weekend! As well as a virtual one I signed up for in December!
