I promise to return to all things fitness and running next week but this has been bugging me and Mayor Slay inspired me to speak out.
I know that the NFL leadership probably isn’t interested in listening to a female fan but here it is anyway.
I am a proud resident of St. Louis. I’m a proud Cardinals, Blues and Rams fan. Over the past few years, we’ve been wondering whether or not we will bet to keep the Rams here.
Then I read Stan’s relocation request and got angry. So many inaccuracies and over exaggerations. When I read it, I couldn’t help but paraphrase to what sounded like Stan basically saying “they don’t like me and I don’t like them.” I was so proud of Mayor Slay for speaking out on our behalf that it inspired me to do the same.
Let me make this clear. We are a Midwest town with Midwest values. We believe in love but only when it’s built on strong relationships. It doesn’t matter if it’s a significant other or a sports team. The Cardinals have been the gold standard for a long time but more recently the Blues have done an amazing job reconnecting with the community and getting everyone to bleed blue.
As much as I love football and the Rams, I do not love Stan nor will I ever. If I were you, I would be really worried about what he’s doing to the already-fractured reputation of the NFL in this sports-loving market. We might not be big, but we’re passionate and you’re damaging the NFL image in a way that will most definitely have an effect on your bottom line.
From someone that could very easily be a diehard fan, the NFL has continued to misstep more than Stan trying to adjust his toupee and it’s disappointing. The NFL is about to trip on another hurdle if you let the Ram’s move. St. Louis is more than willing to open their hears (and wallets, which is all you care about anyway) to support a team that supports them but with Stan at the helm, you can take your team. He’s no good for St. Louis.
So let it be noted that my closet will house all the MLB and NHL gear that it can hold but my NFL gear will go right into the trash if the Rams leave. Oh and while we’re at it, nothing against Coldplay but I don’t see them as halftime entertainment.
