Earlier this week I shared what I hoped would be my race calendar. Obviously some of these won’t happen so I’ve been on the lookout for some fun experiences close to home that I can take part in.
Between writing that post and now, I’ve signed up for three things that I’m really excited about. Maybe that post spurred me to take some action or something. Whatever the reason, here’s the details:
Hired a Coach
I’m not entirely sure why but I’ve always wanted to see what it’s like to work with a run coach. I’ve debated going with someone virtually versus in person and I decided that I liked the idea of being able to meet up for coffee, talk about what’s going on and possibly even running together.
I went through a local running store that also has a well-established group training for local runs that I’m looking forward to getting to know. They helped me get to the finishline of the NYC Marathon so I knew it would be a good experience.
Signed Up For My First Triathlon of 2016
If I’m being honest, there has always been a part of me that misses triathlon. Even though I am not a big fan of the bike, it’s always been something I love. It’s the variety. Before E was born, I had some serious plans to do nothing but triathlons for an entire season. The one I’ve signed up for is in two weeks. It’s all indoors but it’s Olympic distances. I’m going to use it as a way of gauging where I am physically. I am really looking forward to it.
Signed up for SpeRunking
This is something I found out about last year but couldn’t go. This year, I knew I couldn’t miss it. Did you know we have TONS of caves here in the STL area? Drive an hour away, and you’re in some serious cave country. I’m doing a 3 mile cave run, complete with a lake and a few obstacles. I’m not entirely sure what to expect but I’m looking forward to a one of a kind experience right here in my own backyard! No major travel needed! (Check it out here.)
OOOH and if that wasn’t as much fun as you can handle for a post, I have some other fun news (well, at least it is for me). I’ve started writing for a well-respected local magazine called St. Louis Magazine. I’m super excited and almost feel like a legitimate writer now. My first post went live earlier this week. Check it out here!
So because I need a picture in every post, here’s one of my two monkeys. If you want to see more training pics make sure to check out my Instagram Feed.
What races are you looking forward to? Would you do a cave run?

I would totally do a cave run as the can the team the FUN would make even me love the run piece 🙂
Thanks Carla!
I’ve never heard of Sperunking and I don’t think I’d be up for it. Caves FREAK me out! 🙂
ha! Well, I’ll take some pictures. 🙂
We just did an indoor tri a few weeks ago. I wish there were more of them bc they are great practice and they are so low key and fun to do with friends. Have a great time!

I love the LOW KEY part. That’s definitely what attracts me to them.
