Parenting Can Make You Sick

February 14, 2016 22 Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This is the time of the week where I give you an update on my half marathon training.  Technically I was in week 4 last week when we were in Colorado and I will tell you I did ZERO running.  I wish I could tell you it was because I was carving up a mountain (that’s how the cool people say it right?) but it’s not entirely true.

As any other parent will tell you, it’s fact that parenting can, in fact, make you sick.  E had this nasty virus the week before we left.  It knocked him out for the entire week then we flew out on Friday.  We got to Colorado and everyone was healthy.  My mistake was breathing a sigh of relief.  No sooner had we gotten through the first day that MiniE started feeling bad and the rest of the trip was a wash for her.  She and I spent a large portion of our time like this…

Parenting Can Make You Sick

I spent every night sleeping upright just so I could keep her comfortable and propped up in the hopes of keeping her chest a little more clear.  At the ready every time she needed a drink or a hug or a little more Tylenol.  Well, needless to say 5 sleepless nights finally took their toll and I flew home, went to bed and woke up sick..sick…sick.  I’ve spent the weekend trying to sleep this away in the hopes that I can get back to training tomorrow.  I miss running.  I miss sweating.  I miss it all.

Marathon Olympic Trial Thoughts

I watched the Olympic Trials yesterday and couldn’t believe how incredibly inspired I felt afterwards.  Did you watch it?  I cheered with all my heart for Kara, Desiree, Sarah, Andrea and a couple other ladies that I’ve been following.  Meb has had my heart for years and to see him take second just made me smile big smiles.  I think what was even more interesting was all the coverage after the race.  The conversation between Rupp and Meb, the team work betweek Cragg and Shalane and Kara telling it like it is.  There is more to the race than what we saw on camera and I’ll be following this all the way through Rio.

In the meantime it’s time to get back to training and working on solidifying my race calendar.  I have added a couple races and taken some off.  I was so happy to be chosen as a Rock ‘n’ Blog ambassador for the third year in a row so obviously I needed to take a look at what races I could get to and I still am eyeing up some triathlons so check it out the changes here.

This week’s training plan looks a little something like this:

Day Workout Planned Comments
Monday 3-4 @ easy
Tuesday Rest
Wednesday 10 min w/u + 5x1Min at Tempo
Thursday 4.5 @ easy
Friday Rest
Saturday Cross Train (Swim/Bike)
Sunday 8 @ Long Pace
 Total Mileage:  20 Miles

I’m hoping I haven’t lost too much speed.  I was really doing well with the training.  But the time away was worth it.  Check out our ski trip pics and videos in this post and this one.

It’s so hard when the kids are young and they keep passing germs back and forth. Hope you are all feeling better this week

I bet the time off from running will leave your legs fresher and ready to be fast again.

It’s the worst! My youngest son was like a human petri dish when he was little. He brought everything home. I swear I was in the Clorox wipes frequent buyer club. I hope you are feeling better!

Ugh, my kids always like to share too. Right now I’m super stuffed up thanks to a kid who sneezed in my face…

Hope you feel better and get back to training quickly.

oh, boo to being sick (and having to play nurse when the little ones were sick, too). My running has evolved….I miss it when I simply cannot do it (like if I”m majorly under the weather), but I also have learned to accept that even if I tried to run when my body isn’t “feeling it,” I do more damage than good. Rest up 😉 Hopefully, you’ll be feeling better soon 😉

Ahhh the joys of parenting <3 Sending speedy recovery vibes to everyone. I'm sure you didn't lose any speed, sometimes the unexpected breaks in our training are actually unknowingly welcomed by our body. And when you get back to it, you are even stronger!

All of the rounds of sickness with kids can be so exhausting. Once the cycle of sickness starts it can be so hard to break it! Hope everyone is starting to feel better!
