Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend! It’s been pretty great around here too! This weekend was our every other year Girls Trip. A couple years ago we went out to Sonoma and had a BLAST. This time around we headed to the other coast. Portsmouth, NH to be exact. We had a big agenda too. Whale Watching…Lobster Trapping…Site Seeing and of course, I desperately wanted to run the region.
We flew in on Thursday to the Wentworth By The Sea (a Marriott property). What a beautiful stately property. Friday AM I took off on a solo run to get my bearings. Three miles later I had found the beach and could’ve run forever if it weren’t for our whale watching appointment.
We headed to Rye Beach to catch our boat. It was cloudy and overcast but it quickly cleared up and we were enjoying the sea breeze. After about 40 minutes, we reached a place called Jeffery’s Ledge. It took us about 10 minutes before we spotted our first whale. A minke whale. It was awesome but knowing it was one of the smaller whales we COULD see I wanted a little more. I was really hoping to see a hump back or the more illusive Finn Whale (the second largest whale). Then we spotted him…Crow they called him. He was HUGE. AND I can’t take the credit for this picture. One of the others on the boat had a great camera and a great eye. He caught this moment. Thanks Keith!!
After that we were on a pretty big high so we headed to dinner. Portsmouth is gorgeous this time of year. Perfect weather for outdoor dining. It was so refreshing after the heat we’ve had at home. Saturday AM I had setup a run date with a girl that I’ve been dying to meet for YEARS. We should’ve gotten a picture where you could actually see our faces but this one was pretty classic ( you can see the other one we took on Instagram). Thanks Angela (HappyFitMama) for the amazing run.
The rest of Saturday was all about lobster. We found a captain that would take us out and let us check the traps and basically catch our own dinner (in all honesty, I don’t eat lobster but my crew did so off we went).
That evening we did a lot of getting lost in the neighborhoods just gawking at all the amazing houses, chasing the sunset and just enjoying the sea air. I can definitely see why people don’t want to leave in the summer. Just gorgeous! Don’t think I didn’t snap some photos of the houses for inspiration. These are the houses you see in Architectural Digest “By the Sea” edition.
We spent Sunday doing some marathon sight seeing in Boston. The runner in me was CRAVING a run but that wasn’t happening today. BUT we did do some drinking at Cheers.
Now it’s time to head home. We’re taking home tons of memories and I’m taking home a SMALL itch to get back to Boston wearing my running shoes.
Have a great week and stay connected with me on Instagram, Snapchat (MomsLRB) and if you’re craving more of Mom’s Little Running Buddy, head over to BOB Gear’s Fitness Center to read my latest post for them.
