My New Mantra

August 23, 2016 4 Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

You know that feeling when something just resonates?  You can almost physically feel it.  Well, I had one of those moments last week and it’s still lingering so I thought it’s time to share.

At work we have review sessions where your boss gives you some feedback on how to improve, etc.  Typical corporate stuff but I luckily have a boss that really gets me and give me advice.  Anyway, I was self critiquing that one of the things I need to work on is my snarkiness.  At times, I get frustrated easily and in so many ways, stop listening…knowing in my gut that it isn’t going to turn out the way I want.  You might think that’s a shocking self assessment but it’s my reality. It’s something I need to change.

Anywho…he said you have to learn to elevate the situation.  Take it to a better place and rise above the feelings.

There!  Did you read it?!

ELEVATE

That word has been rolling around in my head since that conversation and not just at work…on my runs too.  In a way I guess it’s kind of become my mantra.

Elevate

It’s helping me push through. It’s helping me sit up taller at work.  It’s helping me see the forest for the trees and it’s giving me permission to be a better person, leader and runner.

I know…that’s deep but it’s one of those things.  Right now, it’s the exact thing I needed to hear.

And it’s parallel to running is comforting.  Last week when I was so emotionally drained, I sought reprieve on a run and it did the trick.  This mantra is in turn helping me take my running further and as result, I’m in a better place.

A mantra that can help you rise above. Read it now! #Runchat #WeRunSocial #motherRunner

Ok, that’s a TON to digest.  I get it but just talking about it brings a smile to my face.  In a world a words…this one is the only one I want to hear.  Hopefully it will help you too!

That’s such a good piece of advice from your boss. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day to day, so a reminder to rise above is huge. Taking that one with me today!

In an unimportant piece of information my coffee maker died this morning 🙂
I share that only because this has made me think about the line which I will now proceed to get incorrect 🙂 but the notion of a rising tide lifting all ships. Elevating.

That is a good piece of advice. It’s funny how words are used that can change the meaning of them and how they are recieved. The same thing has happened to myself. My sister got me a Momentum Jewelry bracelet for Christmas last year, and it said, “Create Your Worth” I thought huh when I first read it. I wore it several times while running and didn’t really think twice about it. We ran a 5K race together and she was pushing past me. She uttered those words to me and it took on a whole new meaning to me. It’s now my mantra. That phrase is more about just constantly improving and being worthy. For me, it’s about setting my own goals, my own expectations for myself, and never allowing anyone else to make me feel less than worthy.

Oooooh I love this mantra! That’s awesome that it’s been working so well for you. I totally need a work mantra right now, things have been a bit stressful lately and I could totally benefit from something like this. Thanks for the idea!
