I finally feel like I’m getting back on track after two weeks of sedentary life. Between a wicked sinus infection and throwing my back out, I figured my body was trying to tell me something so I listened. The two weeks broke down like this:
Day 1 -3: No guilt. It’s obvious I need this time.
Day 4 – 6: Still pretty guilt free thinking that I’ll get back on track next week.
Day 7-9: Ok, can’t enough be enough already? Nothing feels good but I’m a mental wreck.
Day 10-11: What the hell did I do to my back?! And why am I tasting metal?
Day 12-14: Two doctor appointments later…I feel like I might be back to normal soon.
Well, that should teach me to neglect the signs. I bounced back a little last week with 13 miles for the week and a race. My first race since June probably. On Thursday night I participated in the St. Louis Biz Dash with work. It was my kind of race. It started at 7:00 pm after some networking and socializing. The route took a ton of turns, winding through downtown. Without having done any sort of speed training recently I wasn’t sure I had any to speak of but I finished with an avg 8:35 pace which was just ok.
But the vibe of the event was great and we had a good time.
I’m resetting this week and trying to get back on training track. If you want to see my plan you can check it out here. I’m also dipping my toe into the yoga pond on Wednesday night with some rooftop yoga at the Chase Park Plaza. I’m looking forward to it, believe it or not. I figured a little extra stretching is what I probably need right now.
In other news, I feel like I’m just chasing kids around all the time. We are involved in activities three nights a week now. I’m not a huge fan of it but it’s swimming and soccer. And when we’re not doing that, we are on our bikes around the neighborhood or just enjoying the cooler temps.
Every time I turn around I feel like these kids are growing up faster than I want. I mean look at this little thing.
I’m just gonna say it…I’m looking forward to scarves, vests and books. What are you looking forward too?
Do you know…Rock ‘n’ Roll STL will be here in a month?! I can’t wait. Are you coming into town?
This Friday night I was exhausted. Quite frankly I would’ve loved if my exhausted child had gone to bed… Instead we stayed up super late dancing and laughing. You are so very correct they grow unbelievably fast and I just kept thinking: so soon you’ll be gone.
I will be there for the 5k & Half!
Wahoo! Watch for it! We might try to do a meetup
I figured you would! T-3 weeks!
I definitely need cooler weather… like yesterday! It’s still in the 90s here in east TN and I’m so over it! Loving the evening race you participated in – and an 8:35 pace is amazing considering the “sedentary” life you lead earlier in the month. Congrats!
90s is September?! October is almost here. Cooler temps are bound to follow. Hang in there!
