We haven’t done coffee talk in a while so let’s chat. AND…while we are on the subject of coffee, I’ve almost completely made the transition from Diet Soda to coffee. So far so good!
This week was tough. Last week was frustrating. Last week, virtually no training was had. Between getting back into the swing of work, having a major sinus infection that affected my ears oh and did I mention the vomiting 6 year old?! New years are supposed to be about new resolutions, new beginnings and for me it just felt like more of the same!
Everyday I didn’t train was more frustrating than the last. There was even a minute where I questioned my ability to fully train for a half ironman. It bummed me out because this has literally been a goal of mine since before the kids were born and the idea that I’m standing in the way of achieving it was beyond frustrating. I went to the doc last night and finally got check out and treatment plan in place which included an immediate steroid shot to help some pretty serious swelling in my sinus cavity.
Every time I have these kinds of weeks, I instantly going into this dangerous tailspin…
“You’re not serious about this goal or you would be training through all this”
“It’s going to be a painful 20 weeks”
“Suck it up and get out there”
It reminds me that I’m not invincible and I do get impacted by life. Everyone’s situations are different and instead of thinking of all the people that overcome adversity big or small, I immediately think about all the people that are making it all look seamless.
Like I said…a tailspin!
You have to have hills to make a mountain and this goal WILL get achieved. Will it always be textbook? NOPE!! That’s never been my thing like it or not. So I’m working on taking this week in stride and move on.
