Normally I’m whining and complaining about February in STL. It’s notoriously a month of snow and ice and FRIGID temps. I’m usually complaining about spring half training and how much it sucks to run outside this time of year but the past two weekends have been anything but terrible.
Today it hit 73! 73 in February! In St. Louis! WHAT?! It’s crazy but loving every minute of it! Snowing was fun but I’m happy to be home and getting back to training. May will be here before you know it and I’m still nervous about 56 miles on the bike!
Couple things have changed with my training since we’ve talked about training.
I actually got my new bike (and named it)
And it’s glorious! Still getting use to it but the smoothness in the ride is definitely noticeable. Stella was an aluminum frame. The all carbon is crazy lightweight and you don’t feel like you’re pulling the bike along with you. I would like to introduce you to…MOXIE! I appreciate all the help I got on Instagram with the name. In the end, Moxie just fit and a huge thanks goes to Sonja for the name recommendation.
I hired a coach
This was a big step for me. I think the thing that’s scared me most about having a coach is that now I’m not just letting myself down if I miss a workout, I’m letting him down too! The thing that I’m really liking though is his interaction. He’s always there to answer my questions and we talk and share workouts through Garmin Connect which is great! Ryan (aka TriJayhawkRyan) is in Kansas and is a seasoned triathlete. You can check him out on his site here. But so far, I’m really liking having the additional support. It’s nice to know someone who knows 70.3 is looking at my workouts and keeping me honest.
The weekend was great for workouts and family! I got it all in! BOOM! It’s weekends like this that build confidence and help me start to really wrap my head around the distance. Next week starts tomorrow and I’m excited to push through another week of workouts and try to make some gains! The weather was SOO nice the kids and I even got out some to play. We explored Laumeier Sculpture Park. It’s such a hidden gem in STL. If you ever get a chance, check it out. So many unique pieces there.
I really love their sense of adventure. And how when all they have is each other, they really do get along well.
So while I’m sure we’re not done with winter yet. We are loving these breaks in the cold. It’s definitely reminding us how nice it is to be outside!
Did you get out this weekend? Are you training for anything?
Looking forward to challenging you via swim, bike and run! 😉
Enjoy this weather! You don’t see this in February in the Midwest! EVER!

Loving this same weather in Michigan- it’s supposed to snow again this weekend and next week, so we’re going to enjoy every minute outside that we can the rest of this week! Make it a good one 🙂
