The pedal is to the metal. Life is moving fast! Kid activities have taken over three nights/days a week between swimming, basketball and soccer. Work travel has stepped up again and I’m in the throws of Maid of Honor duties for my baby sister’s wedding. All really good things, so lets make sure we say that. Let’s keep the vibes positive.
BUT that also means that my own goals and interests are competing for what’s left of my “free” time. So I’ve had to really keep myself in check about what’s important. When you have only an hour or so to yourself a day, you have to make tough decisions about what to do. So the things I’ve pretty much given up are TV, blogging (in large time blocks) and pretty much all self care. I can’t tell you the last time I’ve had a massage or pedicure. Just no time. BUT the thing I am committed to is this half ironman goal. I’m only 2 and a half months away. Scares me to say that.
As far as training goes, I’ve been keep up pretty well. The days I have two sports I have to perform some pretty good magic acts to get it done but I’m putting in the time. Funny thing is, I’m actually really LOVING multi-sport training.
It’s been really nice to change it up some. For someone who never learned to swim in the technical sense, I love the pool. Turns out 45 minutes of just listening to your own breathe and consistency the stroke is really therapeutic. Sometimes it really feels like meditation. If it weren’t for my Garmin, I would have NO idea how far I’ve gone. It’s that easy to get lost in moment.
The one thing that has been a HUGE help is having a pretty good setup in the basement. Yes, I would like to be doing most of my training outside but if being inside means I can train right along side my kids…then the mamma in me is content. So my treadmill and my CycleOps trainer and bike have gotten a LOT of use this past winter. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen what my training environment looks like. 🙂
So I guess what I’m say is that I’m surviving. In fact, I’m actually liking multi sport training. My body is responding well, and my mental hurdles don’t seem to be as big. Not sure why but I’m going with it!
