Vacation is a special time! It doesn’t even matter where you go. Just the idea that you’re on vacation is seductive. I LOVE everything about it. I love to take the opportunity to try to get couple things accomplished because the feel of vacation high can roll right back into regular life if you spend just a little time prepping.
I’m not saying work your entire vacation but if you can sneak sometime in before the kids wake up or maybe during nap time or at night, you’ll return to life feeling not only refreshed but ready to conquer the world!
So I’m sharing the five things I try to do every vacation!
Clean Out Email
If you’re like me, you have several email accounts (my personal, my work and my blog). They all get backed up with unopened (although scanned) emails. I set flags on some that I promised myself I would get back to. Spending 10 minutes every morning cleaning them out has allowed me to get that down to zero. That feeling is amazing and gives you a reason to celebrate on vacation
Set Out Of Office
While I like to get stuff done, I also like to set the expectation that I am not expected to get anything done. So I set that OOO on ALL emails so everyone knows I’ll get back to them when I can.
Practice Moments of Quiet
Even if it’s for a second. Those moments are what rejuvenates you. This one is the hardest for me since I’m always moving or thinking but taking a moment to just drink coffee in the morning next to the water or sit outside and meditate for a few minutes is so healthy.
Looking through those emails, you’ll probably find a few unattended to items. Set some goals to tackle those first thing back from vacation. At the same time revisit those new years goals or create new ones! Any day is a good day for a fresh start!
Try Something New
I’m all about the feeling of firsts and vacation is a great time to experience those firsts! I don’t care if it’s something new you’ve eaten or a new experience. Enjoy the feeling of exhilaration and maybe even have another reason to celebrate.
Enjoy your time away. Maximize the memories and just relax! And you’ll get so much out of your vacation!
